Meet Julie
Julie Wiltshire, RP
Registered Psychotherapist
Hi! I’m Julie! I am a Registered Psychotherapist with more than 20 years of clinical experience supporting children, youth, adults, couples, and families. I believe that we are wired for connection and that we are not meant to navigate life’s challenges alone. Reaching out for support can sometimes feel difficult, but therapy can provide a safe place to better understand what you’re experiencing, strengthen your relationships, and begin creating meaningful change.
The problem is the problem;
the person is not the problem.
One of the principles that guides my work is that “the problem is the problem; the person is not the problem.” You are not defined by the challenges you are facing. I believe that each person brings their own strengths, values, experiences, and capacity for growth to therapy. You are the expert it your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you as we explore your story and work toward healing, resilience, and greater wellbeing.
“
My Approach
My approach to psychotherapy is relational, trauma-informed, attachment-focused, and client-centred. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor therapy to your individual needs and goals. Depending on what brings you to therapy, I may draw from:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT/EFIT)
Narrative Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy
Other evidence- based approaches
I also incorporate an understanding of neuroscience and development to help make sense of patterns in emotions, behaviour, relationships, and responses to stress.
Who I Work With
I work with individuals experiencing a range of concerns, including:
anxiety
depression
trauma and adverse childhood experiences
ADHD and neurodivergence
emotional regulation difficulties
stress
burnout
relationship challenges
communication difficulties
boundaries
grief and loss
significant life transitions
“
My goal is to create a warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental environment where you can feel safe enough to explore difficult experiences while developing practical strategies for moving forward.
Couples & Relationship Therapy
Relationships can be one of our greatest sources of connection, but they can also become places where we feel hurt, misunderstood, disconnected, or stuck. I provide couples and relationship therapy to help partners better understand the patterns that have developed between them and begin finding healthier ways of relating to one another.
Together, we can work on communication, emotional connection, boundaries, conflict, recurring relational patterns, and rebuilding connection. My training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and attachment-focused approaches helps me look beyond the surface of conflict to better understand the emotions, needs, and patterns influencing a relationship. I’m also Gottman-trained in couples’ therapy.
I have extensive experience working with children, youth, parents, and families. Having spent many years in child and family mental health, I understand that difficulties rarely exist in isolation. Individual wellbeing, relationships, parenting, family dynamics, developmental experiences, and our broader environments can all influence one another. I bring this systemic understanding into my work with individuals, couples, and families.
ADHD & Neurodivergence
Another important area of my practice is supporting people who have ADHD, identify as neurodivergent, or are exploring neurodivergence. I have completed focused clinical training in ADHD assessment and treatment approaches and have experience helping clients better understand challenges related to attention, executive functioning, emotional regulation, relationships, and everyday life.
Rather than defining someone by a diagnosis or difficulty, I work collaboratively to understand how their individual brain, experiences, environment, relationships, and strengths interact. From there, we can identify strategies that are practical, realistic, and meaningful for their life.
Christian-Centred Therapy
For clients who desire it, I also offer a Christian-centred approach to psychotherapy. Faith can be an important source of identity, meaning, hope, and strength, and I can thoughtfully integrate Christian faith and biblical principles into the therapeutic process when this aligns with your values and goals.
Christian-centred therapy is always client-directed. You do not need to be Christian or incorporate spirituality into therapy to work with me. Regardless of your beliefs or background, my goal is to provide a respectful and compassionate environment where you feel heard and supported.
My Background
Throughout my career, I have worked across community mental health and private practice, including many years as a Child and Family Therapist before moving into private psychotherapy
practice. My experience has included individual and family psychotherapy, clinical assessment, treatment planning, psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, and collaboration with schools, physicians, and community organizations.
I am committed to lifelong learning and have pursued professional development in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) for attachment and trauma, ADHD, DBT, CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), grief and loss counselling, and working with military personnel and veterans.
Outside of my professional life, I am drawn to simplicity, spending time in nature, and nurturing meaningful relationships with family and friends. I believe in practicing many of the same things I encourage in therapy—making space for reflection, caring for ourselves, staying connected to the people who matter, and developing habits that help build resilience.
Above all, I consider it a privilege to walk alongside people during meaningful and sometimes difficult seasons of their lives. Whether you are seeking individual psychotherapy, couples therapy, relationship counselling, family support, trauma therapy, ADHD support, or Christian counselling, my hope is to provide a space where you feel understood and supported as we work toward the life and relationships you want to create.
