Meet Jennifer

Jennifer Robinson, MA
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Hello! I’m Jen. Currently, I’m a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with 12 years experience supporting people in various roles. I provide individual and couples’ psychotherapy to adults in Peterborough and virtually across Ontario. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel intimidating, and I strive to create an open, down-to-earth environment where you can feel safe, validated, heard, and free to talk about whatever may be weighing on you.

I practice from a person-centred and collaborative approach, recognizing that therapy should be tailored to your unique needs, experiences, strengths, and goals.

My Approach

Together, we can identify what you would like to change and develop an intentional path forward. My therapeutic approach draws primarily from:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

  • mindfulness

  • integrating practical strategies with empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental therapeutic relationship

  • Gottman-trained couples’ therapy

  • women navigating:

    • mental health

    • pregnancy

    • postpartum life

    • motherhood & matrescence

    • raising a young family

Who I Work With

I work with people experiencing a range of concerns, including:

  • families & couples

  • individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities

  • individuals with dual diagnoses

  • individuals who have experienced trauma and domestic violence

Above all, I believe that you need to feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard in therapy.

Women’s Mental Health, Postpartum & Motherhood

I have a particular passion for women’s mental health, postpartum mental health, motherhood, and matrescence—the psychological, emotional, relational, and identity transition that occurs as a woman becomes a mother. As a mother of two young children myself, I appreciate how significantly the transition into parenthood can affect you, your relationships, and your family as a whole. I am passionate about supporting women as they navigate the challenges, changes, and adjustments that can accompany pregnancy, postpartum life, motherhood, and raising a young family.

Supporting Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities & Dual Diagnoses

I bring extensive professional experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and dual diagnoses. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I spent many years working within developmental services and community mental health, including more than six years with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Dual Diagnosis Team. These experiences have given me a strong understanding of developmental disabilities, both through providing direct support and through recognizing the challenges that can arise within families and relationships.

My Background

My professional background also includes training through Victim Services of Peterborough and Northumberland in trauma, domestic violence, crisis intervention, court accompaniment, and emergency crisis response. Across these experiences, I have developed a deep appreciation for meeting people where they are and helping them work toward goals that are personally meaningful to them.

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Trent University, and a Social Service Worker diploma from Fleming College. I have also completed additional training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), cultural awareness, opioid prevention and response, and understanding hoarding.

Above all, I believe that you need to feel safe, respected, and genuinely heard in therapy. My goal is to provide a compassionate and welcoming space where you can explore what you are experiencing, better understand yourself, develop practical tools, and move forward with greater intention.
