Meet William

William M. Doherty BA, MA, RP
Registered Psychotherapist

My name’s William and I’ve provided service in mental health and addictions for over a decade and have been a registered psychotherapist since 2018. In having partnered with all different types of people over the years, I’ve seen that pain does not discriminate. If you’re in pain, you’re in good company and shouldering the weight is something we can do together.

I’d love to help you know healing in the face of pain.

OUR SERVICES

Trauma and You

It’s our personal and professional goal to provide you with evidence-based care that ultimately helps you heal from traumatic incidents ranging from early childhood experiences, work-related trauma, and relationship wounds like abuse and betrayal. At Watershed, we aim to equip clients with the tools, techniques, and therapy to effectively stabilize trauma symptoms.

We provide personalized coping tools to manage anxiety, anger, irritability, flashbacks, hypervigilance, and continuing stress while helping you regulate ongoing trauma responses. Our leading modality is Cognitive Processing Therapy – the gold-standard in trauma-related care, with specialized treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Trauma responses and symptoms are usually normal reactions to abnormal circumstances.

Reclaiming Relationships

At Watershed we help you integrate conflict into meaningful connection no matter the source of pain within, and between, you and your partner. Whether you’re moving forward from infidelity and betrayal, navigating uncertainty in a high conflict marriage, or simply hoping to share an equal part of your daily routine, Watershed can support you and your partner in creating a healthier relationship.

We look at the root of what’s taking place between you and your partner and work toward resolution and reconciliation in place where differences are understood and common ground can be found. Our relationship and marriage therapy is informed by the work of the Gottman family – leading researchers, clinicians, and authors in the field of couples therapy.

Dealing with conflict effectively is a necessary part of every healthy relationship.

Addiction and Coping

Addiction is usually our best attempt at coping. Whether you’re trying to manage painful emotions, cover a past relationship hurt, numb the pain brought about tough decisions in the absence of good options, or simply caught in a lifestyle that is hard to break free from, Watershed can help you help yourself.

We help clients struggling with alcohol and other substances from the perspective of understanding addiction as a symptom of the problem and not the root problem itself. We aim to help you develop the tools, techniques, and coping strategies to support you on your walk toward freedom from addiction.

Our addictions therapy is informed by Motivational Interviewing and follows an abstinence-based approach to relapse-prevention.

Addiction is only a symptom of the problem, and is usually our best attempt to cope.
